Editorial engagement photos are ideal if you’re seeking images that feel like they came from a Vogue magazine spread. If you’re hoping to have editorial engagement photos in NY, the SoHo city streets make an awesome backdrop.
We recently had the chance to capture the lovely Morgan and Aaron’s SoHo couples session. Today, we’re sharing it here to give you some inspiration for your own editorial engagement photos in NYC.
These two lovely humans are musicians who moved to New York City from Texas to pursue their creative dreams. We’re thrilled to support them in their art, and don’t be surprised if you see or hear them performing on a stage near you sometime soon!
On top of showcasing Morgan and Aaron’s editorial engagement photos, we’ll share tips on planning your own SoHo engagement session. Now, let’s get to know SoHo NYC to discover if this beautiful part of NY is for you.
Why SoHo NYC is one of the best spots for editorial engagement photos
SoHo gets its name for being “south of Houston Street,” and it’s downtown NYC location is considered part of Lower Manhattan.
Bordered by Greenwich Village and NoHo to the north, the Hudson River to the west, TriBeCa to the south, and NoLiTa, Little Italy, and Chinatown to the east and southeast, you can easily walk to any of these adjacent areas to make the most of your day before and after your SoHo engagement photos are taken.
With picturesque, urban accents and colorful, textured backdrops, there’s an abundance of beauty to be found in SoHo’s chic surroundings.
Considered the most fashionable neighborhood in NYC, SoHo features cobblestone streets, ornate architecture, and classic city details. Add cute restaurants, fancy hotels, and cozy cafes to the equation, and you’ll find some of the best editorial engagement photo locations in NYC across this affluent area.
SoHo NYC is also a hangout for celebrities, artists, and creatives, as well as the setting for countless movies and TV shows. That has a lot to do with how beautiful and artistic the buildings look here, as nearly the entire neighborhood is considered part of the SoHo Cast-Iron Historic District.
This 26-block stretch with roughly 500 buildings was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1978. And, thanks to local artists, historians, and residents, SoHo has maintained a timeless city look — even with all the luxury boutiques, new restaurants, and 21st Century touches.
With so much variety and style, SoHo is the perfect place for your editorial engagement session. It’s also one of the most romantic engagement photo locations NYC has to offer.

How to get to your SoHo engagement photo shoot in NYC
Depending on where you want to start your NY engagement photo shoot, you have plenty of ways to get there. We suggest taking the NYC subway. This map of SoHo will show you where it’s located and all your subway options.
We like to begin on the east side of SoHo. To get to the perfect starting point, take the Q or R trains to Prince Street or the 4 or 6 trains to Spring Street.
If there’s a spot on the west side of SoHo NYC that you want to start at (or you just wanna snag some cronuts from Dominique Ansel Bakery), take the A, C, or E trains to Spring Street station and head east along Spring Street.
You can also start from SoHo’s northeast corner. Just take the B, D, or F trains to Broadway/Lafayette Street Station and work your way in.
If the train isn’t an option, a taxi, Uber, or Lyft might be best, since public parking is tricky. Plus, private parking lots are on the higher end. You also probably wouldn’t want to be hauling your ride down those cobblestone streets; they’re excellent for editorial engagement photos, but not so much for tires. 😅
Important things to consider for SoHo engagement photos
Before you head out for your SoHo engagement session in NY, it’s essential to consider your footwear. You’ll likely be walking at least a little bit, including on pretty-but-perilous cobblestones. If you plan on wearing heels, it’s always better to understand what you might be in store for in advance!
Bring a pair of flats along so your feet can be more comfortable in between walks and after your session.
You should also think about what SoHo city streets and scenes are the highest priority for your pictures.
Is it those beautiful, textured cobblestones? A crosswalk with an iconic landmark in the background? Or maybe that sleek green staircase in front of the Prada store?
Wherever you’re most excited about having your editorial engagement photos taken, it’s best to have a plan. Figure out where you want to head first (and second, and third) to ensure your SoHo engagement session is as seamless and smooth as can be.
There are plenty of places you can stop into for indoor engagement photos to change the scenery. And if you plan on changing outfits, there are restaurants, cafes, and hotels all around.
As always with editorial engagement photos, plan your timing around sunrise and sunset. That way, you’ll have plenty of natural light during your session. Here’s a site where you can check when the sun rises and sets any place, any time.
Morgan and Aaron stopped into NoMo SoHo for drinks and to switch attire during their SoHo engagement photos. But that’s not all. There’s also a gorgeous tunnel of green when you enter that’s amazing for couples portraits. And on the second floor, there’s an open-air terrace perfect for intimate couples pictures if your timing is right.
